Today i was waiting for my bus and as i was standing there i saw a little guy walking towards me, and i had a funny thought in my head. I thought to myself



Heh, that guy looks like he is dressed as a bus-driver



So i turned around and got back to waiting and suddenly the bus doors open and in steps the little guy. HE was the bus-driver.



Now Dublin buses are (as shown above) mostly double deckers and are about 15-20 feet high and this guy was about 4ft nothing. But i stood there and watched him climb onto the seat, adjust the wheel and apparently adjust the pedals, because i cant see any other way he could reach them.



What struck me was the contrast between him and the bus, it just didn’t look real.





Obviously i scaled the little midget man to look roughly in scale with the bus

As i was walking to class today i was walking up the street and i was passing the sex shops they have there and there was a truck delivering things pulled up on the curb. As i got nearer i saw it was delivering into the sex shop. As i got nearer still i noticed that all the boxes were the same product. And as i walked passed i noticed that the product was lube.



It was an entire truck of lube, i had no idea it was in such high demand.

I was on my way home today and as usual this is a teenage girl story.



There are a few things I could talk about but I don’t want to, but one thing I cant help but mention.



All three of the girls were sitting there talking, but they were talking with their hands in their mouth.



All three of them took their thumb and pushed it up into the roof of their mouth and they sat there with their thumbs in their mouth and they were talking as usual.



If anyone can think of why they were doing this I would really like to know, I just cant figure it out.

Freuds theorized that there are 5 stages of psychological development. At the oral stage the main issue is dependency, at the anal stage the main issue is self control, at the phallic stage the main issue is sexual identity, at the latency stage it's skill development, and at the genital stage its creativity and productivity.



Freud theorized that psychological problems are related to problems during one or more of these stages. The genital stage is the final Freudian developmental stage and according to Freud people don't all succeed at this. Freud believed the ideal for human happiness is to be happy in love and work, problems in one or the other cause unhappiness.



Like any personality system, Freud's developmental levels are just a theory, so, be speculative about your results.

• The role of Louis Tully was originally written for John Candy.



• The role of Peter Venkman was originally written for John Belushi.



• The role of Winston was originally written for Eddie Murphy.



• Gozer was originally going to be played by Paul Reubens, who turned down the role. In the original script, Gozer appeared as a normal man in a business suit.



• Punk rocker Anne Carlisle was originally offered the role of Zuul, but turned it down.



• Sandra Bernhard was originally offered the role of Janine.



• Dan Aykroyd's original version of the script began with the Ecto-mobile flying out of Ghostbusters HQ, but director Ivan Reitman suggested that it would be better to show how the team got started.



• Dana's apartment building actually exists at 55 Central Park West in New York City. The building is actually only 19 stories high. For the film, matte paintings and models were used to make the building look bigger and with more floors.



• The Sta-Puft marshmallow man was originally supposed to come up out of the water right next to The Statue of Liberty, to get a contrast of size, but the scene was too hard too shoot.



• On the set, Dan Aykroyd referred to the "Slimer" ghost as the ghost of John Belushi.

• The eggs which fry themselves are sitting next to a package of "Sta-Puft" marshmallows. There is also a large advertisement for "Sta-Puft" marshmallows (complete with the marshmallow man) visible on the side of a building.



• Many sequences were shot but removed from the film (a couple of the following were added as extras to the Criterion Collection CAV laserdisc release) :



• Several shots in the sequence where Venkman, Stantz, and Spengler are thrown off campus were cut.

• Several scenes throughout the film with Janine and Egon were cut.

• The first time Venkman leaves Dana's apartment, he says to Louis "What a woman."

• The "green slimer" ghost is discovered by two newlyweds at the Hotel Sedgewick. Also cut was a Ghostbuster inspection of the room.

• A policeman tries to ticket the Ectomobile, but the car won't let him.

• Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd play two bums that witness Louis being chased by the terror dog.

• Ray and Winston inspect Fort Detmerring, where Ray dresses in an old General's coat and falls asleep. When he awakes, he sees a female ghost above his bed. This part of the sequence was kept and used in the montage in the middle of the film.

• Louis encounters two muggers in Central Park during the ghost montage.

• Venkman and Stantz discuss matters with the mayor outside City Hall.

• The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man sequence ends with his large hat falling to the ground. Some deleted shots appear in the film's trailers.





• In the middle of the film's initial release, to keep interest going, Ivan Reitman had a trailer run, which was basically the commercial the Ghostbusters' use in the movie, but with the 555 number replaced with a 1-800 number, allowing people to call. They got 1,000 calls per hour, 24 hours a day, for six weeks.



• When Alice the librarian is queried as to whether anyone in her family had ever had any history of mental illness, she replies she had an uncle who thought he was St. Jerome. Jerome is the patron saint of librarians.



• The demonic voice of Dana/Zuul was performed by director Ivan Reitman. The voice of Gozer was provided by Paddi Edwards.



• John Candy was originally given the role of Louis Tully. He eventually backed out.



• The music video for the song "Ghostbusters" by Ray Parker Jr., directed by Ivan Reitman, featured a number of celebrities who did not appear in the film. This included Chevy Chase, John Candy, Danny DeVito, Peter Falk, Melissa Gilbert, Carly Simon, Teri Garr, and "Cheers" (1982) favorite guest George Wendt. • In rehearsal, Bill Murray (Venkman) teased Czech model Slavitza Jovan (Gozer) about her pronunciation of the line "Choose and Perish", which sounded to him like "Jews and Berries"(!) and he'd say "There are no Jews and Berries here!"



• Most of the deleted scenes are "restored" in the novelized adaptation of "Ghostbusters"



• The original script had a budding romance between the cynical receptionist Janine and the blissfully out of it Egon, but most of it was edited out of the film. The special edition DVD features a deleted scene of Janine giving Egon a coin for luck before he goes off with the other Ghostbusters to fight Gozer; they are interrupted by Venkman. The relationship between Janine and Egon was explored more in the animated series that followed.



• The interiors for the hotel scene were filmed (mostly) at the famous Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, on the corner of 5th and Grand. This famous location has been used for hundreds of films, TV shows, commercials and even a few music videos. The three doors that the Ghostbusters walk through in the movie are actually located on the entrance on 5th St. The Grand Avenue entrance leads you to the main lobby, which used to be the hotel ballroom, as seen in the film. (The ceiling is a dead give away.) The room's formerly solid walls have been replaced by glass doors (at the entrance) and archways. The reception desk is where the long banquet table was located in the film. To the right of that would have been the bar that Egon blasts. If you go into the bar to the right of the main lobby, there is a picture of the old ballroom on one of the walls, giving you a better perspective of what the room looked like in the early '80s.



• Flashbulbs were used on the business end of the proton pack weapons so that the special effects creators could properly synch up the effects with the action (most visible in the dining room scene, frame by frame, when capturing Slimer).



• All the college scenes were filmed at Columbia University in New York, including the fictional Weaver Hall office/lab interiors. Director Ivan Reitman decided to use an actual on-campus office instead of a soundstage so the film crew could film indoors if the weather turned bad, rather than lose a day's filming. Columbia University agreed to all this, on the condition the school not be mentioned by name on-camera.



• The firehouse set the Ghostbusters use as HQ was remodeled and used once again as the mechanic shop in The Mask (1994).



• The original premise of "Ghostbusters" had three main characters: John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy. They fought ghosts in SWAT like suits using wands instead of guns. The ghost named Slimer was known as "Onionhead", and at the end of the movie the Ghostbusters franchise was all over the United States. John Candy also was slated to play Louis. However, with Belushi's death and characters backing out, the script was rewritten and new actors casted.



• Storyboarded but never shot included:

• A scene with Egon testing the proton pack, which is charged by being plugged in. The pack melts the plug.

• A model's mink coat comes to life on a runaway. Note that this scene does happen in Ghostbusters 2 to a woman on the street.





• Early publicity for the film was a teaser campaign featuring just the "no ghosts" logo. As the campaign built, the Ectomobile was also driven around the streets of Manhattan.



• Exterior scenes of the Ghostbusters headquarters were filmed at the Hook and Ladder #8 Firehouse in the Tribeca section of New York City. Inside the firehouse are a Ghostbusters sign and photos taken with the cast and crew.



• After the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man is destroyed there is a shot of a man down on the street being deluged by a huge amount of marshmallow goo. Due to the extreme angle of the shot most viewers don't realize that this is Walter Peck. A cut scene (included on the DVD) took place a few moments before, at the same angle, where Peck tells the police to go up to the roof and arrest the Ghostbusters.



• The "marshmallow" goo was actually shaving cream. More than fifty gallons was dumped on Walter Peck almost knocking him to the ground.



• The schedule for getting the movie into theatres for its scheduled release date in summer 1984 was so tight, director Ivan Reitman said that the final print included incomplete special effects shots and errors like "wires showing" but, "remarkably, people didn't care".



• One scene shot for the film but later deleted shows Ray and Winston on a call and Ray ends up in Canadian Mounties outfit. Production stills from this scene appear in the published version of the film script.



• Initally, Ray Parker Jr. was having trouble writing the theme song to the film. The problem was solved when he saw the TV commercial for the Ghostbusters business in the film which inspired him to write the song like a advertising jingle for the business. The song was a #1 hit for three weeks.



• When Venkman mentions the time Spengler tried to drill a hole in his head, Spengler's response ("That would have worked if you hadn't stopped me") was actually ad-libbed by Harold Ramis.



• The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man suits cost Approximately $20,000 apiece. Three were made and all were destroyed during filming.



• The Ectomobile was originally painted black until it was pointed out that most driving would be at night and the car would be difficult to see. It was then repainted white.



• Because some of the film was shot on location at Columbia University, in New York, the school receives a percentage of the royalties for the film to this date. Not knowing if the movie would be a success and being required to choose what they would spend the money on prior to the film's release, they chose landscaping and, due to the movie's success, they can afford to re-sod their campus monthly.



• The firehouse used is actually two different firehouses that are in two different cities. The exterior is in NY, while the interior is in downtown Los Angeles. The LA firehouse is very popular with filmmakers and has been used in many movies.



• Bill Murray agreed to do this movie only on the condition that Columbia finance a remake of The Razor's Edge (1946) with him as the star. The remake was made (_The Razor's Edge (1984)_ .



• The bum that Bill Murray played in a deleted scene looks and acts just like his character on Caddyshack (1980) (and also sports a golfing cap).



• The party scene where Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) mingles with his party guests (commenting on the price of the salmon, and so on) is not only taken in one continuous shot, but is almost entirely improvised.



• Huey Lewis and the News turned down an offer to write and record a theme song for Ghostbusters. They later sued Ray Parker Jr. for plagiarism, citing the similarities between his theme song and their earlier hit "I Want a New Drug."



• Lindsey Buckingham was approached to write the theme song to after the successful collaboration for Vacation (1983) ("Holiday Road"). He declined.



• There was a even more ferocious version of the Librarian Puppet that was going to be used, but it was rejected. However, it was recycled and used in another successful Columbia Pictures film released one year after this one, Fright Night (1985).

Today was Critical theory and technique.



We were talking about the supposed idea that the child in the photograph represents Innocence. It was more complicated then that of course but would take far too long to go into detail.



The bare bones of this entry is that for the first half of the class 09:30-11:00 it was just a few people in my class and the lecturer.



However after the break there was someone new in the room and i have no idea who she is. She sat at the back of the room across from me and every time i would make a comment or give my point of view in class she would take notes.



She took notes when other people put their opinion forward but this only happened 3 or 4 times out of several. However every time i opened my mouth, even if i was just making an off the cuff remark she took notes..........im not paranoid.

Today was the deadline for my Documentary project. There was a minimum of 6 images and i submitted 8. I had expected my images to go over well but when i was showing them today almost everyone in the class loved them and i was getting complements left right and centre.



The two lecturers loved them too which is a nice change from their usual reactions of liking the idea but having a ream of "improvements".

Today i was bringing my *Nana and my Great Aunt out to **Dun Laoghaire for part of my documentary project. On the bus out there a woman who every movement brought an expression of pain to her face as if trying to pass shards of broken glass, however these expressions were only shown when people were trying to get passed her or she was changing seats, which she did several times. I think she was faking.



But what drew my attention in the first place was that she had a goatee, a full and thick goatee. She was talking to someone and while she was thinking of what to say next she would stroke her beard. I would have taken a photo but i only had one roll of film on me and i needed it.

After all the portfolios i have deleted as an admin and all the warning messages i sent out i still find it amusing that almost the instant i delete something or ask someone to move something that very same person zooms straight to my portfolio as if they are going to find something there and be able to say:

On a lighter note i did buy the re-make of Dawn of the Dead. it is much better then i had expected, usually i am not a fan of re-makes but in this case i can admit i was wrong, the remake has something to offer fans of the original, most notably the black guy from the first movie reading some of his lines from the 70's movie as a tv preacher man. Well worth a look.

Today i was walking through town, and as i was walking along a homeless guy was walking towards me. As he got closer i could see he had his hand down his pants. While he was about 20 feet away he pulled his cock out, leaned against a building and proceeded to piss all over the place.



As disgusting as it is i found it funny, but what i found more amusing was the fact that he was quite well endowed.

After this show of deviation and deprivation I went to spend time with my nana and my great aunt. These are two of the most polite and well spoken people I know. Well I spent roughly 6 hours with them for a documentary project, after this I left to walk for my bus. While walking for said bus I was talking to myself and I was simply saying;



“fuck fuck, taint, cunt, fuck, fucky, fuck fuck fucky”



I had to restrain myself from casual cursing and swearing for those 6 hours and after that it was so nice to have the freedom to swear so I made the most of it, the majority of my 20 minute walk was narrated with a streak of blue that would make a sailor blush.

The above Image/link is from the New York Public Library digital archive. These photographs were the subject of todays History of Photography lecture. Even though the site claims that both photographic albums contain photographs of men arrested for being members of an out-lawed political party in the 1800's infact only the second album contains political prisoners, the first album contains photographs of prisoners in Mountjoy jail in 1857, most of whom are just regular criminals.



The second album though does contain the portraits of men arrested by the english. This was a time of un-rest in Ireland and the english fearing a revolt clamped down on the freedom of the Irish people under their rule and as a result of this 600 men were arrested without having committed a crime, the majority of these men were held without charge for periods of 2 years or more. However even though there was no up-rising with most of the people capable of organising one in prison this act infuriated the irish people and ultimitly leading up to the Easter rising in 1916 where 800 years of english rule was challenged and all but the 6 northern states were returned to Irish home rule.

Last night i did not get much sleep but what sleep i did get was not only useful but entertaining.



Most of the dream is a mix of blurred images and half remembered situations but what does stick out in my head is that it was another Batman dream, but with a twist.



It was a Batman-Vr dream. I would be swinging over all these buildings and i would have to swoop through a window to log into Vr every few roof-tops. And im not sure how creepy this is but Cancer was actually in the dream and i was talking him for a bit as Daire and then i had to leave and i returned as Batman and just continued to talk shop.....very unsettling when i woke up.

I dis-like my neighbours. They represent almost everything i despise about the young generation and my own. They are simple minded, loud and obnoxious. What i dislike most about them is the fact that they are loud.



What is worse is that they listen to dance music and Rnb and because they are stupid and almost deaf, they always listen to their music at top volume.



Tonight they turned on some dance/techno crap and as usual it was at high volume. Well i had had enough of this so i decided to beat them at their own game. I put on Panteras Great Southern Trendkill album and i turned my volume up and did the same with my bass. I had set my volume on about 12 out of 30, which for my sound system is slightly above normal listening volume for me, not very loud. However with the bass up im sure they heard it just fine.



I played the album until it got to track number 8. Suicide note part 2, which any Pantera fans will tell you is a loud and screechy track. After this track had finished i turned off my music only to hear absolutely nothing.



Silence is golden, and victory is sweet. :)

Walk, 1916, worm, old ladies.



Ok so its later now and im still tired but i think im up to it.



Today i went on a walking tour of Dublin. The focus of the tour was on the 1916 rising, which is a turning point in the Ireland Vs. England situation. So we were brought to all these different locations around the city and were given a little bit of history to go along with the site.



One area was down some little back alley where a wounded Irish soldier died. However he died in an interesting way. While running across a street under fire from the english he caught several bullets and fell, he ended up in a doorway where he, having taken stock of his wounds took out a pencil and wrote a letter to his wife, soon after he wrote it he died.



The content of the letter is carved in stone and set above where he died.



The second place we went to was a house were several members were forced to surrender after hacking their way through several walls to make an escape only to be blocked in by rubble caused by shelling from the english ship the Helga.



While we were being told this bit of information there were two old women behind the group listening in and they started to say,



Lies, its all lies, that is the house, all these poor foreign kids don’t know their history



You get allot of this kind of thing in Dublin, the average Dubliner has the sense of humour of a 6 year old. Several more times during the tour similar things happened, the hangers on being, a middle aged man with platinum blonde hair and chain smoking and an old man in the *GPO. You know the kind of old person with nothing to do so they go to every public building they can get to in the hope of stumbling across a tour guide or a group of people desperate for conversation.



One thing that struck me as i was on this tour happened when we were standing in a little alcove off the street. The ground was littered with leaves and as i was listening i saw something move, there was a tiny little worm like creature which would stretch its body to about 3 times its relaxed length and wave back and forth until it hit something solid, where it would latch on and move forward again in the same fashion. As i was listening to dates and facts about key historical figures it struck me that this worm was having almost the exact same experience as me and yet the relevance was totally lost on it, it had no concept of time or history or future, it simply wanted to move through all these leaves and get to where it was going, while i was standing in the lashing rain nursing a sore foot and picturing epic battles through the streets of Dublin. I found it interesting.

I was walking my dog today, it was about 18:30 so it was dark and i was walking down by the river that separates where i live with the estate on the other side. My ex lives on the other side of the river and today i found myself thinking about her as i walked along.



However this is one of the few times that i was thinking of her as a person. Usually when i do think of her it isn’t exactly her i am thinking about. Sometimes i think about her as an ideal, sometimes i think about her as a liar and sometimes i think of her as a betrayer. However today she was simply another person among thousands.
